Building Better Mental Health through Leadership and Team-Based Support

This extended training offers public health professionals practical tools and frameworks for promoting mental health through both leadership behaviors and team-based support. In addition to reviewing the prevalence and impact of mental health challenges and the neuroscience of trauma and stress, this session emphasizes how modeling behaviors such as self-care, communication, and expectation-setting can shift organizational and community norms. Participants will learn evidence-informed strategies—including the LASER method and Motivational Interviewing—to promote psychologically safe environments, whether in the workplace or broader public health settings. The session is designed for both formal leaders and stakeholders with influence over health outcomes and culture.
