HEI Preconference Workshop

The HEI Preconference Workshop is an additional cost and registration to the full HEI Conference.

The Workshop will be limited to 35 participants. Registration can be found here.


Ohio SOPHE is pleased to offer a preconference workshop during HEI. In alignment with the conference theme, the preconference workshop will explore the intersection of Public Health with Mental Emotional and Behavior Health. Workshop participants will meet the requirements to become a certified Question Persuade Refer (QPR) Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper. 


Developed by the QPR Institute, QPR is the most widely taught gatekeeper training in the world and is designed as an emergency response to someone in crisis.  Participants will also explore national, state, and local resources, organizations, funding opportunities that can aid health educators to foster partnerships with prevention and behavioral health providers.

Workshop Outline:

Part 1:  Question Persuade Refer

    • How to Question, Persuade and Refer someone who may be considering suicide
    • How to get help for yourself or learn more about preventing suicide
    • The common causes of suicidal behavior
    • The warning signs of suicide
    • How to get help for someone in crisis

Finding state and local partners for suicide prevention and mental health program work

    • Key players/organizations that can serve as partners in this work
    • Funding opportunities
    • Overview of Ohio behavioral health care providers
        • Prevention & Early Intervention
        • Treatment Resources
        • Recovery Resources
        • Landscape of Ohio’s crisis support system
